The thing about those who spend a significant amount of energy bashing the rich is that they really, really want to be rich. The US recently had a president that signaled he wanted to go after the rich, but those were words. We now have actions to measure against. (Remember, before taking the office of the president, he was not rich.)
Since leaving office, President Obama has become fabulously wealthy. Adding to his ridiculous after-office largess, are the generous benefits given to former Presidents of that country by its government, its people. He wants it all, and more!
Even now, as his net worth escalates, Obama still complains about the rich. At a speech in South Africa earlier this year, he said, "There's only so much you can eat. There's only so big a house you can have. There's only so many nice trips you can take."
His most famous line, however, came in a 2010 speech, when he went off script in remarks about financial reform to say: "I do think at a certain point you've made enough money."
While we don't care how much money Obama can make in the private sector, we do object to taxpayers subsidizing his already luxurious lifestyle. [Read]
Two things:
- What is the money flowing his way a payoff for?
- Is there anything richer than the hypocrisy?
Again, if you want real wealth, become entwined in the machinations of government.
